Parkview Sports Medicine Performance Training

                             


FWSC has partnered with Parkview Sports Medicine to provide our athletes with world class performance training. This age appropriate training will concentration on injury prevention, speed, agility, strength and cardiovascular fitness with the focus on the soccer athlete. This program includes a comprehensive injury risk and performance assessment as well as dietary information with the PSM Sports Dietician.

Scott Charland- Manager of Sports Performance

     Scott Charland comes to Parkview Sports Medicine Performance after serving as a Strength and Conditioning Coach in the Butler University Athletics Department.  At Butler, he worked extensively with the Men’s and Women’s soccer programs.  During his time, the Men’s Soccer team won two Big East Championships and reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2017, while the Women’s Soccer team received their first ever at large NCAA Championship bid.  Individually, he trained the 13th overall pick in the 2017 MLS draft, and a member of the US Women’s U20 National team.

     Prior to Butler University, Charland served as the Sports Performance Team Leader for Indiana University Health.  AT IU Health, he oversaw the training of approximately 1500 youth athletes within IU Health’s 20,000 sq/ft facility.  This included the preseason physical development for the Indiana Fire Academy.

     Scott has spent the majority of his career in the collegiate strength and conditioning profession.  From August 2013-December 2014, he served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports at Temple University.  In this role, Charland supervised the athletic development and performance training for all 23 of the Owls’ Olympic sport teams. He came to Temple University after spending five and a half years as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Saint Louis University.

While at Saint Louis, Charland was responsible for managing the strength and conditioning for 16 Billiken sports and overseeing day-to-day operations of the strength and conditioning facility.  Charland’s teams at Saint Louis University won a combined seven regular season or post season Atlantic 10 Championships and 10 individual A-10 Championships.

     Prior to his time at Saint Louis, Charland served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at The Ohio State University. He designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for eight of Ohio State's intercollegiate athletics teams and assisted with all aspects of strength training for 18 additional Buckeye sports.  During the 2007-2008 athletic year, three of Charland’s teams advanced to the NCAA Final Four in their respective sports.

     Coach Charland was a competitive soccer player himself and has had a tremendous amount of success training both Men’s and Women’s Soccer athlete’s at the Division I Level.  This includes teams that have won 8 Conference Championships and was highlighted by his work with the 2007 Ohio State Men’s Soccer Team which finished as runner-up National Champions.  Coach Charland has also had numerous players drafted into the MLS including one Generation Adidas Athlete and the fastest athlete at the 2014 MLS Draft Combine.  Several male and female athletes trained by Coach Charland have also gone on to play for their country’s National Team including Team USA.

     Charland is a 1996 graduate of Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, and a 2001 UAB graduate with a master's degree in exercise physiology. He is a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA Weightlifting, and USA Track and Field.



Rachael Bouwmeester, MS LAT, ATC, CSCS

     Rachael obtained her B.S. in Kinesiology from McMaster University in 2014 and her M.S. in Athletic Training from Texas A&M in 2016. While at McMaster she began her passion in athletics working as a student athletic therapist with women’s field hockey and men’s rugby. She implemented a conditioning program with the women’s field hockey team that was followed throughout their season and introduced the team to the importance of a dynamic warm-up. Rachael also had the opportunity to work as a student therapist for Hockey Canada’s U18 training camp hosted in Hamilton, Ontario during spring 2016. While obtaining her master’s degree, she worked with Texas A&M football, soccer and swimming and diving teams. She began her career with Parkview Sports Medicine in June 2016 at Indiana Tech working as an athletic trainer intern with men’s soccer and the track& field team. She also spent a season with the Manchester University softball team. This past year she was the assistant athletic trainer at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) working both women’s and men’s volleyball. During the year she implemented a dynamic warm-up and shoulder injury prevention program. While serving as a Performance Specialist for Parkview Sports Medicine, she also oversees exercise science interns from surrounding schools in the Fort Wayne area.
