Message from Coach

5/2/11 What a great weekend of play, culminating in a championship at the Bowling Green Spring Soccer Challenge. With a goal off of a beautiful cross and header, an unbelievable P.K. stop, and all-around focused team play, I'm truly proud of the classy soccer that generated the weekend's four wins, and the girls should be too. We're taking today (Monday) off of practice. Enjoy your middle school games and I'll see you on Wednesday.

-Coach Teagarden

4/19/11 The girls kicked off the spring season in grand fashion, earning the most points of any team within our ISL division. It was a team effort, with great communication, ball movement, positivity, focus, and (word of the season:) tenacity across the field and throughout the matches. We'll take a weekend off then head to Ohio to take on new opponents at the Bowling Green Spring Soccer Challenge. Buckeyes, beware!

4/01/11 The weather's hinting at spring, and I know I'm not the only one eager to get out on the pitch and start the outdoor season. Here's our practice schedule for quick reference:

Mondays at the Fort Wayne Sport Club from 6:30-8:00pm.

Wednesdays at Deer Ridge Elementary from 6:30-8:00pm.

I'm also thrilled to announce that Coach Saurin, from the IPFW Women's Program, will be working with me and, more importantly, our girls throughout the spring season. As a part of the FWSC's Girls in Coaching Initiative (GCI), this enhanced training will give us an edge as we take on opponents locally and all over the region. Here is Coach Saurin's bio, pulled over from the IPFW Athletics site:

On February 6, 2007, Margaret Saurin became only the second head coach in IPFW women's soccer history. Saurin brings an impressive playing and coaching resume to the Mastodons. She will begin her third full season as head coach of IPFW in 2009. Before coming to IPFW, Saurin had been the assistant coach at Akron University for three seasons. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Christian Brothers University (Tennessee). Saurin has been part of the Ohio Northern Olympic development program and holds United States Soccer Federation "B" and "C" Licenses. As a player, The Dublin, Ireland native was a member of the Irish National Soccer Team from 1996-2003 and was a Dana Cup Gold medalist and MVP in '96. Collegiately, Saurin was a two-time All-America selection at Christian Brothers, helping lead the Lady Buccaneers to the NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2001 and the National Championship title in 2002. For her efforts, Saurin was named to the NCAA Final Four Team both years. She is the current NCAA record holder for assists in a season. (Excerpt from: http://www.gomastodons.com)
