Matt Hein Carlos Cruz (left)
Coach Hein:
A graduate of IPFW, Coach Hein was a member of the men’s soccer team and was drafted to the WISL’s Utah Freeze. He was named All-American, all-region and GLVC Player of the Year, and is a member of the IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame. Matt also won the Mike Berticelli Boys Travel Coach of the Year award from Indiana Soccer. Matt enjoys focusing on and developing the technical skills of young players and encouraging sportsmanship and love for the game.
Matt Currently is the Technical Director for our PDA program which encompasses all competitive youth players 11 and younger. Matt, along with several other PDA coaches, trains our younger players in preparation for travel or recreational programs.
Coach Cruz:
Coach Cruz is the current Director of the PDA program. Coach Cruz has coaching experience at the High School lever at Fort Wayne Dwenger and is currently an Assistant Coach at Indiana Tech. Cruz is the director of Fort Wayne Futsal, founded in 2010, and Fort Wayne Phoenix FC (2015), the only group in Indiana sanctioned by the US Youth Futsal organization and the USSF. He operates Catalonia Camps, which develops youth players through both soccer and futsal.
Cruz holds a USSF ‘C’ License, USSF National Youth License, a US Youth Futsal Level 3 National License, and has earned coaching certifications through FC Barcelona Escola. He is also the State Director for US Youth Futsal.
The Northwest Indiana native holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Saint Francis. He ranks as one of the program’s all-time leaders in goals, assists, and points.
